Got a Maybach for a week to review; AMA. Also happens to be my birthday weekend so don’t expect legible/ungarbled responses. The quick & dirty? This is not a driver’s car. (duh?) But, it’s got all the usual cool gadgets on it M-B puts on their high end cars.

Does the new Maybach run the V12 Bi-Turbo or V8 Bi-Turbo?
![]() 03/23/2018 at 20:22 |

Either. The TT V12 is the optional engine.

Sorry, I meant the one you have on loan?

This car has the TT V8.

How did you end up with it for the week?

So is the Maybach a model of MB now instead of its own brand? Also I’d like to see some interior pics since that’s really what that car is about.

Been writing car reviews for six years now. This is the 5th or 6th Benz I’ve done in that time. Also helps to keep a good relationship with the home office in NJ.

Did you develop a smug sense of superiority over the unwashed masses the moment you step into this “executive jet on wheels”?

I believe it is considered a Benz model now although on their site it’s listed as the Mercedes-Maybach. Interior photos coming tomorrow, although I will get some night pics with the cool color accent lighting.

I don’t know what came over me, but my God YES. Then I remembered I
represent
the great unwashed masses, which was sobering..

The 12 cyl is a $30k option

Where can we read your reviews?

I’ll post it here on Oppo.

Do the V8 models still get the magic ride control? I can’t remember the official name but it essentially reads the road for bumps and preps the suspension for it. I drove a v12 Maybach when the new ones first came out and it was seriously impressive.

Nyet, only the S650 has Magic Body Control. The S560 has their Airmatic self-leveling suspension. And Magic Vision Control and Magic Sky Control. Apparently the car is
magic
.

Magic vision control is my favorite marketing term. It’s just fancy washer nozzles! The Magic body control is actual magic though.

The ambient color lighting is fun to play around with. Super adjustable and gives a cool effect.

Maybach is now a sub-brand like AMG. But in this case the Maybach S-Class is stretched vs. the S-Class.

Yep, I’ve read about how it works and it is some kind of Black Forest sorcery. Which means once out of warranty values on the 650 will tank pretty quickly I bet..

You do realize that you can’t do a proper review of this car without having someone drive you around, right?
![]() 03/24/2018 at 01:32 |

Get me to drive you around on your birthday.
It would be a crime to not enjoy the backseat!
![]() 03/24/2018 at 07:39 |

Now that’s a back seat I might actually want to sit in
![]() 03/24/2018 at 09:45 |
|
No worries, that’s part of the plan. It’s a passenger car, not a driver’s car right?
![]() 03/24/2018 at 09:49 |
|
No kidding, it’s like sitting in the back of a Lear jet.
![]() 03/24/2018 at 09:51 |
|
Yep, the back doors on this car are yuge.
![]() 03/24/2018 at 11:09 |
|
Exactly! But that being said this new version of Maybach is more of a driver’s car than the older 57/62's.
![]() 03/24/2018 at 12:47 |
|
True. But at least this way, I know what it’s like to drive a Maybach lol
![]() 03/24/2018 at 15:19 |
|
I suppose. The old 6.2 had as much driver involvement as a stretched Town Car.
![]() 03/24/2018 at 19:38 |

The only way the 57/62 could’ve had less driver involvement was if they were autonomous!
